How We Met

Towards the end of my Senior year in High School, all my friends were going up to OSU for the weekend to attend a little camp meant to get student's involved at OSU. At the last minute, I decided I wanted to go! So I called up the week before and asked if I could attend as well. The advisor said, "Sure! Come on up!" So I packed up and headed to Stillwater, looking forward to a fun weekend with my girlfriends! The first day there, we were all gathered into groups playing get-to-know-you games. One of those games was called "Ninja." Ninja is where you try and hit the hands of the person next to you in one swing before they move away from you. It is a highly intensive game that involves strategy, quick-thinking, and lots and lots of practice. I was standing next to a curly-headed boy named Austin, who proceeded to tell me that he was really good at Ninja and that I needed to "watch out." I laughed and told him that I was the best at Ninja and had been practicing for years. As I was gloating over my Ninja skills, I took a step backward and proceeded to fall over the chair that I did not know was sitting right behind me. Austin turned and asked, "Is your middle name Grace?" From then on, we chatted for most of the weekend. He asked for my number once the weekend was over, and we texted back and forth over the following months. Austin skipped his senior prom and drove down to Edmond to take me to my senior prom. Two weeks later, he officially asked me to be his girlfriend! And of course, I said yes. Much Love, Jessica

The Proposal

I came up with the idea to propose on my birthday since I knew it was the only time she was not expecting. She would be coming to see me that weekend but was certainly not expecting a proposal. I managed to line everything up between families, but there was one single issue that we all quickly became aware of: for the first time since she left her mother's womb, Jessica Wiewel did not have her nails done.  Thankfully, I was able to enlist the help of a bridesmaid-to-be in convincing Jess to get her nails done on Saturday. She returned that morning with beautiful nails and a beautiful smile. We went and got lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. I was full after three wings. My nerves were getting to me. She thought I was angry at her for getting her nails done, and I reassured her that was not the case.  We came home and changed into nice outfits. I told her my parents wanted to take me out to dinner for my birthday, and that we would be going to a nice dinner in Tulsa that evening. I also told her they wanted to spend time with us beforehand, and that we would be going to the Philbrook Museum of Art for a few hours before dinner. She believed me since she knows my dad loves art. We got ready and headed to Tulsa. She still thought I was angry at her, as I barely spoke on the drive. We pulled into the museum parking lot and met my parents in the lobby. We talked for a bit, and they suggested we take a walk in the gardens while the sun was out. We walked down to the base of the pools where a photographer was shooting the gardens, and families were walking by. We approached a flat stone that lined the main pool, and I took her hand to step onto it. She looked into my eyes as I got down on one knee, and I heard her breath catch as I reached into my pocket. I looked up at her and told her I loved her more than she will ever know and asked her to marry me. As she whispered a faint "Yes," the photographer began shooting us, rather than the gardens. With love, Austin
