Scott and Whitney met in the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous in 2022, when Scott had a little over a year clean and Whitney had about seven months. To this day, it’s a running joke that Scott “went after a newcomer,” even though Scott never actually initiated the friendship that turned into a beautiful partnership. Their friendship began over a shared love of the Grateful Dead. Their first date was supposed to be a group outing to a concert, but they ended up being the only two who showed up. The evening took an unexpected turn when Whitney’s best friend, Sarah, experienced a crisis. After Whitney explained what was happening, Scott didn’t hesitate. He simply asked, “Do you know where she is?” They got in the car and spent the rest of the evening making sure Sarah was safe. That was Whitney’s first green flag, and she knew she had found someone with a genuinely kind heart. Their love story continued to blossom while serving together at the East Coast Convention of Narcotics Anonymous. If you know Scott and Whitney, you know that being of service is one of the most important parts of their lives and continues to be at the heart of their recovery. Over the past four years, they have rebuilt lives that were once broken separately and created one filled with love, laughter, and adventure together. They have developed a shared love for traveling and have found each other to be the very best travel companion. They’ve traveled up and down the East Coast, explored parts of the West, and spent hundreds of hours in the car listening to the Grateful Dead and, much to Whitney’s dismay, far more Phish than she ever cared to listen to. Somewhere along the way, Scott introduced Whitney to hiking, and now they are happiest exploring the mountains together. Whether they’re chasing sunsets on a trail, taking spontaneous road trips, or simply enjoying each other’s company, they’ve learned that the destination has never mattered as much as who they’re traveling with. Scott and Whitney continue to be each other’s biggest supporters and loudest cheerleaders, always encouraging one another to become the best versions of themselves. Whitney is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in social work, and she couldn’t have done it without Scott. He’s been there through the long nights, the mid-semester panic, and every moment of self-doubt. He has always been the calm she needs. Together, they are living a life beyond their wildest dreams a life built on love, recovery, friendship, service, and adventure. They are incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported them along the way and can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with the people they love most.
