Years ago, Whitney and Kimmie met in Roanoke, VA. They lightly made fun of each other, exchanged numbers and talked on and off for about 7 years. In that time, Kimmie moved from Roanoke, VA, to Savannah, GA for grad school and then back to Richmond, VA to be with her family and start her career. In 2018 they reconnected around Thanksgiving while Whitney was visiting family for the Holiday from her loft in Charlotte, NC. They fell in love instantly. One week later, Whitney tells Kimmie she is going to marry her. Kimmie thinks Whitney is crazy. Whitney pursues the courtship, flying back and forth for what some may call “power dating” (fitting several year’s worth of dates into a smaller period of time). They moved in together in the Museum District of Richmond in late Summer of 2019. Just a few month’s after their move, Whitney enlists the help of her musical best friends for a grand serenade and proposal. They help Whitney decorate the house with hundreds of candles, strung lights and flowers all while Kimmie is at work. They practice the Elvis song, “Can’t Help Falling in Love” for the serenade while they stage the house. When Kimmie arrives, the sun has almost set, and Whitney meets her out front. She leads her into the house where she puts on a blazer with boutonnière and slides a corsage onto Kimmie’s wrist. The foyer where they stand is at the bottom of a staircase trimmed with candles and roses. Andrea and Solange are at the top of the stairs, beginning the song, “Wise men say, only fools rush in...” When they ascend the stairs and follow the band into the living room, Kimmie’s ring sits in a bowl of rose petals. As the song ends, Solange hums the melody and Whitney gets down on one knee to say, “Ever since we reconnected a year ago, I have fallen madly in love with you. And if you will let me, I want to spend the rest of my life with you as my wife.” And Kimmie said “Well, DUH! YES!”
