Garrett and I met in 2010 when I was in my undergrad at CSU San Marcos. He became one of my best friends instantly. G was the person I would go to when I needed to vent or a sandwich partner. Our favorite place became Jersey Mikes sandwich shop in San Marcos. After about a year Garrett ended up moving up to Moraga, CA to play rugby at Saint Marys College. He was now close to my hometown, so during college I would hang out with him when I was home for the holidays and brought him around my family. I graduated in 2013 and Garrett and I kept in touch here and there. Fast forward 5 years later, I was living in San Diego and Garrett had just moved back to California from playing professional rugby overseas. I randomly received a text from him to catch up. We planned to meet at my favorite restaurant El Prez in SD on May 16th, 2017, to be exact. I remember thinking to myself when I initially saw him "dang Garr grew up a little, who's this tatted man standing in front of me? he is looking pretty handsome.." After a couple of micheladas and an about hour of catching up, Garrett took a deep breath and told me he has loved me since the day he met me and his biggest regret was letting me go once and doesn't want to lose me ever again. He explained the secret nickname that he and all of his friends referred to me as, "GWB". Meaning Great White Buffalo- which to the boys meant something that is so amazing but not real, out of reach. I was instantly swooned and knew in that moment that Garrett was my soulmate. He always knew, I guess I just took a little time and convincing :)
