From Whitnee's perspective: We met at the Lake of the Ozarks during Memorial Day weekend. We were both down with friends and ended up running into each other and Clint started buying me drinks and everyone was just hanging out when this random girl came up to me. She said "girl, we were talking to your husband and we told him that he married up!" I looked at her confused and asked what she was talking about. She said "your husband", and pointed to Clint. I laughed and told her "I don't know him!" She was super embarrassed and said "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry! He's going around telling everyone you're his wife!" So since day one (and not even knowing who I was), he was calling me his wife.
We had set up a couples trip to Cabo, Mexico with my friend Chelsea and her husband, Sam. I convinced Clint to take a week off of work to go, even though he didn't really want to take time off (He was glad he did when the time came!). Leading up to the trip we had gone and looked at engagement rings a few times but Clint kept telling me that he was going to wait one more year. Our last "shopping trip" was 3 weeks before Cabo so I was pretty sure he hadn't gotten a ring yet so it wasn't going to happen on the trip. Little did I know, he had already gotten a ring weeks before that and had been working with Chelsea to set up the proposal in Cabo. Once we get to Mexico, we have to go through customs and Clint was super nervous! Apparently vapes are illegal in Mexico now and so he was allegedly trying to sneak some in... Of course he gets selected for extra screening and I don't! He goes over to get his bag searched and they find one of the vapes and the next thing I see is them digging down in one of his boots and shaking it trying to get what I thought was another vape out. It wasn't a vape...it was my ring! I'm about 30 feet away watching the whole thing but couldn't hear what was being said and I guess Clint told him it was his engagement ring so luckily the guy didn't take it out of the boot, packed up his bag again and let him KEEP the vapes! What the heck. Anyway that was a close call! The next day, we were getting ready for dinner and wanted to take sunset pictures on the beach before and that's where it happened! Chelsea and Sam went down early to set up "Marry Me" letters with rose petals on the beach. We walked right into it! I was still shocked because I really thought it was for somebody else haha! All I remember is crying happy tears and then hearing the whole resort cheer when I said yes! It was absolutely perfect :)
