This may come as a shock to some people, but I never thought I would get married. I've always been fiercely independent growing up with two older brothers. When I first met Carson, I immediately asked my friend (and bridesmaid) Stephanie if she noticed how handsome he was too. Carson and I met through an on campus organization, Phi Sigma Pi, and after months of being friends, Carson finally asked me out in December 2019. We went to dinner at ZaZus in Opelika and it was the best first date we'd ever had. Funnily enough, both of our parents lived in Montgomery at the time so we went to a movie over Christmas Break. Then, Carson asked me to be his girlfriend on New Years. One week later, I knew I was in love with him. About three months into our relationship, Carson drove from Tuscaloosa, where he was doing a co-op at Mercedes Benz, to see me on the weekend. I was very sick, so all we did the whole weekend was talk and watch movies. It was then that I knew I wanted to marry Carson. Many seasons of the Bachelor and 4+ years later, Carson and I are getting married and we couldn't be happier!
It was time to tell everyone about my plan to propose to Olivia. This was a few months before the big day so I had two challenges in front of me, plan a great surprise proposal and let everyone in our lives know about it without spilling the beans to Olivia. Nashville, Tennessee, was a special place to Olivia and me so I knew that was at the top of the list for places to propose. This posed a small issue since we would be moving away from the city at the end of the summer so I had to act fast. We had a short trip planned to visit Olivia’s parents so I had to get their approval first, again without Olivia getting too suspicious. Thankfully Olivia had her own work to do while visiting so I pulled the White parents aside to ask them for approval to propose to their only daughter. With the approval of the parents, now I had to start letting everyone know when and where this would happen so we could have a celebration together. I took many phone calls outside our home in Nashville pretending to be on a walk or going to exercise so I could call the friends and family for both of us and arrange for them to be in Nashville with us. I think Olivia was starting to catch on but my quick wit steered her away. The real question was where? We love many places in Nashville but none quite hit the mark for being crowded or difficult to get to without suspicion. Why not have the whole city be a part of the magic? This led me to the beautiful overlook with a fitting name “Lover’s Circle”. I scoped the place out one day while Olivia thought I was taking our recycling down the street and it was set. This overlook reminded me of all the fun and exciting times we shared in the city so it was right to include it in our big day. Next, the ring. The ring was hand designed by myself with inspiration from Olivia’s preferences and this was a difficult one to hide while going back and forth to the jeweler. Thankfully my golf bag that stays in my car was the perfect place to hide a fine piece of jewelry. At this point it had all come together, the ring, the proposal plan, and the celebration with friends and family. The only thing left was to execute on the plan and surprise Olivia. The day came and I took Olivia to some of our favorite spots in the neighborhood. At mid afternoon we were both beat so we decided to opt for a quick nap before an alleged dinner with her parents who happened to be in town. I said I wanted to stop at one more place on the way to dinner and this was “Lover’s Circle”. As the name implies, this was the spot I got down on one knee and the rest is history!
