Cassie, Jim (uncle), and Linda (aunt) wanted to go out for a few drinks and Jim texted Hockey Parent #1 where all the young kids go. He claimed Vanelli's in Forest Lake so off they went. Jim and Linda were determined to find Cassie a boyfriend and asked their other friend, Hockey Parent #2 who would be the best guy for the job. Hockey Parent #2 texted Derek and said "I have someone at Vanelli's I want you to meet." Coincidentally, Derek was already on his way with his assistant coach, Ryan. They were introduced and then did not speak for at least two hours (because how awkward?) Cassie eventually got enough liquid courage in her, and they ended up playing shuffle board. Then, they headed over to the Legion and danced the night away. After burning all those calories Derek, Cassie, Jim, Linda, and Ryan headed to White Castle. It was a very romantic and delicious first meal. Ryan "thinks" he saw Derek and Cassie kiss in the bright lights in the White Castle parking lot at 3am. The day before Cassie's birthday, Derek planned a surprise birthday dinner. He cooked mussels (that was their appetizer on their first date) and they ate dinner on the lake. While pulling the boat back onto the lift, Tony (Derek's dad) was out on the dock. Derek asked him to take a picture of us by the water and in that moment Cassie knew something was up. And VOILA, he proposed.
