Kareem says he lets me tell our story because he loves the smile I have every time I retell it. It was a cool October night, and I was headed home from a terrible date, if it could even be called a date. The man I had matched with on Bumble earlier in the week, showed me he was more of a bum than a man, as he didn't make a single effort to plan anything for this date; no dinner, no drinks, no conversation, nothing. I left thinking what a waste of time and gas. As I drove home from Kyle to Seguin, I knew I would be passing through San Marcos, where they have a Whataburger location right off the highway. I decided to stop and while I waited in the late-night line behind hungry college kids, I checked the dating app to delete the bum. Luckily, he had done the deed for me already. While scrolling, I saw that I had a message from a cute "Urkel-type" named Kareem. It was a simple message of "Hey, how's it going?". I responded honestly by saying I had just left a lame date, not thinking I would get a response due to the late hour, but lo and behold, the bouncing dots appeared and a response came through. We exchanged a few pleasantries and as the car line moved a wild idea came to mind. I was in a rut with love and needed to put some good karma into the universe, so I asked this cute internet stranger if he'd like anything from Whataburger. To my surprise, his next message was his order: the jalapeno-cheddar burger. I placed the order and paid. What happened next would lead to what I consider the best first date I had been on in a long while. I told Kareem that I had his burger, so what now? He was shocked to find out I had actually bought him a burger but was weary about having me drop it off at his place, so he met me at Whataburger a few minutes later. I honestly thought it was going to be a quick "Hi, how are you? Here you go!" type of interaction. Neither of us were ready for the sparks that were about to fly in that Whataburger parking lot. At this point it's about 1:30 in the morning. Kareem stood outside of my Jeep as we talked and then I somehow ended up standing outside my Jeep too. We talked about our families, our college experiences, our jobs and shared other funny anecdotes. The time had flown by, and it was now 4:30 AM. Both our burgers were cold by this point, so we decided to exchange numbers and talk in the "morning". Kareem went in for a hug, then another hug, and then a third lingering hug. It was sweet and I left feeling like I had made a really good choice stopping at Whataburger that night. We went on a "proper first date" (according to Kareem) about a week later and continued to see each other as much as we could. We made things Facebook official on New Year's Day of 2022 and Kareem popped the question in July of 2024 in the exact same spot where we had met on that cool October night. To which I responded, "What happened to green?" when I saw the beautiful yellow diamond instead of the emerald stone we had discussed. I then immediately said, "YES!! Of course!!" It was a night we'll never forget. Throughout our relationship, we have experienced so much love, laughter, and a tremendous amount of growth. We have created memories and overcome many personal challenges both as individuals and as a couple, but through it all, our love has only grown stronger and deeper. As we prepare to embark on this next chapter of our lives together, we are filled with excitement and anticipation. We cannot wait to exchange our vows and start our new life as husband and wife. Thank you for visiting our wedding website, and for being a part of our love story. We are so blessed to have you in our lives, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you on our big day!
