Question

Driving on the Island

Answer

1. Renting a car is not advised. Roads are for seasoned drivers and there are few guardrails and massive drop offs and twists and turns. People drive on the left hand side of the street and there are barely any stop signs and traffic lights, if any. 2. Taxis and Water taxis are plentiful and can be found at taxi stands outside major locations like the airport, supermarkets, and beaches. You can also call a taxi or arrange a pickup through your accommodation. You can also hire a private car and driver for a day to travel around the island. Registered taxis have a blue plate with the TX symbol. They don't use meters so negotiate your fare ahead of time. 3. Cars, four-wheel drive vehicles and scooters can be booked in advance if desired. A temporary driving license is required for visitors and may be obtained with a valid driving license upon arrival at the airport, at the police station in Castries or at the car rental offices. Remember to drive on the left side of the road!

Question

1. The local currency is ECD, the East Caribbean Dollar but USD is widely accepted. 2. Currency exchange is 1 DOLLAR = 2.70 Eastern Caribbean Dollar 1 PESO = 0.13 Eastern Caribbean Dollar ( I tried haha... I hope that helps somehow ) 3. Try to bring plenty of cash. Banks are few and far between and barely any ATMs. Depending on where you stay, you can get a cash advance on your credit card (for a fee) and outside of the resort, credit cards are rarely accepted. 4. Tips and gratuity is accepted and appreciated on the Island. Most restaurants and bars will add 10 percent for service to the bill, although you are also welcome to provide an additional amount should you feel that you have received exceptional service.

Question

Random Information ( Do's & Dont's )

Answer

1. WEATHER & CLOTHING The weather is spectacular year-round in St. Lucia, so less is more when it comes to packing for this tropical island. Temperatures range from 75-85 in October and can be humid. The sun is intense in St Lucia, so you’ll need plenty of sun protection like a hat and sunscreen–make sure it’s reef safe! After the sun goes down, swap your sunscreen for insect repellent. 1. MUST READ.......Wearing camouflage clothing or accessories, such as shoes, belts, and face masks, is prohibited for civilians. Bags : Using camouflage bags is also illegal, and they will be confiscated if you arrive at the airport with one. RANDOM FACT: Camouflage is reserved for the military in many Caribbean nations, including St. Lucia, Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. This ban applies to camouflage of any color or pattern. ( I did NOT make this up....crazy right??? )
