We first met in 2018, in our hometown of Greeneville, Tennessee. We saw each other for the very first time at the local Fatz Cafe where Weston was serving table number 52. Kensie was grabbing a meal after her shift at the local moose lodge and had heard through some mutual friends that a cute guy served tables there. Her coworkers had already met Weston previously due to Friday nights being their usual dinner night at Fatz. Kensie had some idea of who Weston was, but it was not until the Lord placed us for our paths to cross that Friday night that we would meet for the very first time. Though both of us being shy and timid, we conveyed in small talk and made eye contact at least a few times which is impressive as we were both very shy. Thankfully, our mutual friends had the phone numbers and secrets that we both found each other cute and handsome. From there, we began to engage in small talk and decided that we should have a dinner to get to know each other a bit more. It was at Applebee's where we then had our very first date. It wasn't hard to tell that this could be something special, but we never knew how special our relationship would come to be. As we began to talk more and more, we would go out for dinner, drive around town, and have continued Fatz visits from Kensie and her friends. We would continue to connect and grow trust and feelings for each other. Weston took his sweet time, but finally got the courage to officially ask her to be his girlfriend after 8 months of practically dating after the first ever Applebee's date one evening in 2018.
Though the day of the proposal was a fast-paced day, Weston had been secretly planning for almost six months. With work, college, and life moving right along, he knew he could plan accordingly and catch Kensie off guard. For a long six months, Weston was able to contain the ring and the big plans he had in mind. He also had an idea of where and how he wanted to pop the big question. When the time had come and the day was right, after a nerve-wrecking and anticipated car ride, Weston popped the big question. With the wind blowing, and the ocean crashing, the lighthouse stood behind them in the distance as Kensie began to jump and cry with passion and excitement. Weston knew that not only did he want to pop the question, but he wanted it to be at a lighthouse. This was not just any lighthouse, it was a lighthouse that has stood tall since the 1800s. Just as the gospel song says, though many may want to tear an old lighthouse down, it still stands tall and faces the storms in spite of what life throws at it. May it be a symbol of the commitment we made, of the love we share, as Jesus is our lighthouse that guide us through our storms.
