Jon and West met through friends. They were always hanging out in a group settings in the typical bar scene of Dallas. Sometime in late September, Jon got up the nerve to ask West out. They were talking about West's birthday, which that year happened to fall on the Red River Rivalry game. She explained that her birthday plans were getting trumped by the UT vs OU game. Jon, in true salesman form, guaranteed himself two dates by offering to take her to the game as long as they went on a dinner date beforehand. Neither one of them had a connection to the teams playing, but it seemed like a good time regardless. The following week he asked West to go to dinner. Sunday was the only time West was available, but they made it happen and you might expect us to say the rest was history. However, they still had a football game to attend. Before we finish the story, some context: Jon played football at Mizzou. West danced at the University of Georgia. Well, it turns out Mizzou was playing Georgia in Athens, GA the same weekend of the Red River Rivalry. Jon decided to throw a "Hail Mary". He called every connection he could think of to pull off a huge surprise only a few weeks into them dating. He even had to meet with West's best friend/roommate for the first time to share his plan and ask her to pack West a bag. The morning of what West thought was the the Red River Rivalry plans, she woke up to Jon throwing a bag at her. He told her he was going to grab coffee, and she needed to start getting ready so they could leave by the time he got back. West was completely confused because it was 5:00 in the MORNING. She opened up the bag. To her disbelief, not only was the bag full of RED and BLACK clothes, but they were also HER clothes. "No way are we actually going to Athens" she thought. Sure enough, after a quick flight and drive, they were sitting at a rooftop bar in Athens, GA that afternoon with field passes to the game. West was sold. Jon was her guy. Go Tigers! GO DAWGS!
