On December 15th, 2019, Emily was sitting on the couch with her girlfriends for their annual pre-Christmas get-together when her friends convinced her to sign up for Match.com. And she did, right then and there. The very next day, she checked her app and discovered a message from Andrew. They ended up talking for a whole month before meeting up, as Emily had a trip to Mexico planned. Kicking off 2020 just right, they met for their first date on Monday, January 13th. Andrew picked the place - 859 Taproom in Florence, Kentucky, and they were there having a great time for over three hours, not wanting the night to end.

On February 20th, 2021, a little over a year after their first date, Andrew and Emily started a game of "around the world" during halftime of the UNC vs. Louisville NCAA game in Emily's parents' indoor basketball court. After UNC beat Louisville by a mile, they headed back down to the gym to finish their own game, when Andrew got down on one knee and asked Emily to be his wife as both of their families watched from a window above. Andrew's beloved Tar Heels won that night, and so did Andrew.
