Wes and I went on our "first date" in November of 2022, but that's not where we met. In May, we were both invited to our friend Andrew's birthday dinner in Dallas. I walked in very late and Wes would tell you I immediately caught his eye. I found him attractive as the new guy at the table but little interaction between the two of us took place that evening. It wasn't until my name came up in conversation 6 months down the road for Wes to do some digging into "that girl" at the birthday dinner. In a very sweet way, my Facebook allowed Wes to learn about my dad who had recently passed away. The things he read, specifically about my dad's passion for faith, work and family, were the very reasons he knew he wanted to meet the daughter he raised. In October, I received a Facebook message from Wes asking why we hadn't seen each other since that night. He quickly made plans to meet with our mutual friends that weekend. Funny, no one else was available that Sunday except for me! We quickly connected over faith and family walking around a market and listening to live music. It only took a few months of dating to realize God had something special in store for us.
Wes always envisioned proposing in South Dakota where I grew up with my family close by. We had planned to be at my family's lake cabin July 4th so it was the perfect timing. With blessing from my mom weeks in advance, he was able to visit my dad's grave site for the final blessing the day of the proposal. Later in the evening, we enjoyed the last few hours of daylight swimming in the lake with my sisters and their husbands and my mom. From there, everyone showered and came back out to sit around a fire at sunset. Wes was so nervous walking out I knew something was up, but in sweatpants and wet hair, I didn't think much of it. Not long after we sat by the fire with the family, he lead me to the dock nearby where he promised the charge of a husband: to love, to sacrifice and to encourage his wife to pursue Jesus (Eph. 5:25-27). There, he proposed.
Regan will move in with Wes with their two dogs in his Frisco home. They can't wait to see what God has instore for their first years as a married couple.
