We first met in October 2016 when Wes was visiting San Antonio for orthodontic residency interviews. At that time he lived in Houston, Tx and was finishing up a residency program while I was in my second year of orthodontic residency in San Antonio. After interviews we loosely stayed in touch and in June 2017 Wes moved to San Antonio after matching to the residency program. Wes worked hard to hang out with me after he moved to San Antonio. After many group get-togethers, I finally caved and gave him the one-on-one date he was looking for. On August 20th, 2017 he invited me over for dinner. He had an amazing homemade appetizer spread beautifully set up with flowers, a candle, and wine. He continued to impress me by cooking a delicious pasta meal with edible flowers that he spent an entire weekend searching for. After dinner, we went on a sunset hill country hike behind his apartment and watched the sunset over the rolling hills. Our conversation that night quickly led to many more nights like this where it became obvious we shared many similar passions such as our love for the outdoors and God’s beautiful creations, country music, traveling, orthodontics, and many more.
Wes’ proposal took me by surprise! He states that he knew he was going to marry me since the first day he met me! It sounds cliché but I believe him. This past November my family came to visit early for Thanksgiving since Wes and I were going to his families for the weekend. Wes mentioned that he was off from school and wanted to cook my parents a nice dinner as a thanks for all that they do. If you didn’t catch on Wes enjoys cooking and more importantly loves to cook for others, so this did not seem out of the norm for me. On Nov. 19th, 2018, I got off work late and I met Wes and my family downtown on the river walk where my parents were staying. I was in the worst mood ever! Wes is so thoughtful that I never thought twice when I arrived and was greeted with a warm hug, a full glass of wine and dinner ready and beautifully plated (which he always does). In addition, he even had picked up fresh flowers for my mom and decorated the table! We enjoyed our amazing food, time together and after some wine and delicious garlic butter rolls I was beginning to shake my mood. Once dinner was over, Wes asked me to go join him on the patio which overlooked the river walk. He proceeded to get down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was in complete shock, confusion, and filled with excitement all at once!
