Wesley and Jasmine first met in June of 2024 during a Juneteenth celebration hosted by the National Society of Black Engineers. Their initial conversation was brief, lighthearted, and filled with laughter. They went their separate ways that evening with no expectation of ever seeing one another again. Several months later, their paths crossed again under very different circumstances. Wesley sat in the audience as Jasmine spoke on a panel about career growth and development. Having known little about her beyond their brief encounter, he was struck by her confidence, insight, and the way she candidly shared her experiences navigating corporate America. That moment revealed a depth of character that left a lasting impression. In the months that followed, they continued to see one another sporadically in larger social settings, gradually gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation for each other. Their first true one-on-one conversation came when Wesley learned that Jasmine had just returned from Tanzania—a country he had already booked a trip to visit himself. He invited her to meet to discuss her recent travels and his upcoming journey. As Jasmine often jokes, Wesley didn’t actually ask about the trip until his final question of the evening. Instead, the conversation unfolded into something far more meaningful, giving him a deeper glimpse into Jasmine’s life, values, and story. Time passed—as it often does for two people with demanding schedules, and if you are reading this, you know just how busy they both are. The next time they saw each other was at a friend’s birthday celebration, a fun-filled evening where Jasmine unknowingly also met her future brother-in-law, Dexter Jones. Later on in the night, Jasmine tapped Wesley on the shoulder and asked a simple, yet bold question: “Do you like me or something?". This may have been fueled by one too many French 75's, but from that moment forward, the trajectory of their relationship had officially changed. A few weeks later, Wesley asked Jasmine out on a date. While Wesley was immediately taken with her, Jasmine was not feeling him… at all. Still, she chose not to let preconceived notions dictate her decisions. Instead, she recognized Wesley’s character, consistency, and integrity, and allowed God to work on her heart throughout the dating process. (Meanwhile, Wesley was already convinced.) Their relationship officially began on May 11, 2025. From the very beginning, it has been marked by intentionality. Wesley and Jasmine committed to placing their faith in God at the center of every step. They spent countless hours traveling across the country to spend time with—and be lovingly vetted by—each other’s friends, families, and loved ones. They completed pre-engagement classes through their local churches in Dallas and Philadelphia and sought wise counsel from mentors and pastors. Through their time together, they have already shared a multitude of experiences—moments of laughter, honest conversation, joyful celebration, and quiet tears. They have walked through seasons that stretched and refined them, witnessing the sanctifying work of God in their own hearts and in one another’s. Their relationship has never been about perfection, but about growth—learning to love more selflessly, listen more deeply, and trust God more fully. These shared experiences have strengthened their bond and affirmed their commitment.
