We were what you’d call a slow burn — and anyone who knows us knows that’s true. We met at UBIC (a three-day Roosevelt town celebration) back in August of 2023 on Tessa’s first — and what she thought would be her last — trip to Roosevelt, through mutual friends. During the iconic firework show, Weston sat down behind her, and when she turned around to say hello, she remembers thinking… wow, I had no idea Roosevelt had game like this. She was immediately drawn to him. Later that night, while hanging out with a group, someone asked, “Did Weston go home?” And from the corner of the room — where he had been perfectly content laying on the floor playing with the family puppies — he popped up and waved. That was the moment Tessa made up her mind: she needed to befriend him. In those early days, running in the same circle, Weston was usually quietly vibing while Tessa talked at 100 miles an hour — and somehow, he always found a way to make her laugh. At one point, before they had even really had a full conversation, he walked into a friend’s house, handed Tessa a Diet Coke with a smile, and sat down to watch football. Safe to say, Weston had Tessa figured out early.
What most people don’t know is that Tessa asked Weston out first. She needed a last-minute date and figured it was as good a time as any to get to know the mysterious Diet Coke guy who liked to play with puppies. It is worthwhile to note that when Tessa is nervous she does not STOP talking, and when Weston is nervous he does not START talking. They ended up walking through a haunted forest - which was the perfect storm to trigger Tessa into filling the silence by talking Weston's ear off about school, her baby niece, and all of the things she did not understanding about baseball. Later, when Weston was asked about this night, his response was simple. "I didn't want the night to end. I would have listened to her talk forever if it meant I didn't have to drop her off." In hindsight it is probably good he did not say this to her at the time, because heaven knows they'd still be in that forest. That’s when Tessa knew there was something different about him. Because no guy had ever let her discuss the significance of Taylor Swifts album 1989 (without complaint) before.
After that first date, things quickly fell into place. Between Tessa’s design internships and Weston finishing his pre-nursing programs and working full time, they found time for each other in the in-between moments - quick lunches, thoughtful check-ins, and long conversations at the end of busy days. Weston would show up with small, meaningful surprises - simple ways of letting Tessa know he was thinking about her. One of her favorites was a homemade candy bouquet. What started as something slow and unexpected became something steady, easy, and certain. It was never a secret how much they cared for each other - and they continue to show it in the little ways, every day.
Weston proposed to Tessa on March 27, 2026, at Utah Lake. With flowers, thoughtful details, and their families nearby, he asked the question - and for one of the only times in their relationship, Tessa was completely speechless. They are endlessly grateful for the love and support that surrounds them, and feel so lucky to have such an incredible village. They can’t wait to begin this next chapter together.
