We met at a neighborhood potluck before the fall semester started at UNC. Unsurprisingly, I was working my way through all of the food options when I saw Mackenzie standing next to the buffalo chicken dip looking hotter than the dish itself. We started talking and immediately clicked. I proceeded to "discretely" follow Mackenzie around all evening, even though it was obvious to all what was going on. We both left that night with a special feeling in our stomach (and no, it wasn't the buffalo dip), as we knew it could be the start of something special. Little did we know what a beautiful love story God was beginning to write.
My sweet little niece was born on June 18th so Wes and I were planning a trip to NC to go see her. Wes had planned a date day for while we were there to visit places special to us. We walked around UNC, revisiting all of the places where our relationship started. Vance Street, where we met for the first time and where he returned my laptop charger one night and asked me out for the first time. All the places we went on walks and dates and fell in love. We went to a cute place outside for dinner. Then we drove to the dock where we had watched the sunset during lots of dates in college and after - the same lake we had our first kiss and said "i love you" for the first time. (Thanks Vance boys for whoever found that place). We walked down to the dock and it was decorated with twinkle lights (my love language) and candles, with a bouquet of roses and a card addressed to me (and at this point I’m like hello is this for me??!!). At this point, Wes is getting a little teary (literally the cutest thing ever) and has me read the sweetest note he wrote out to me while we watch the sunset. When I turn around, he's down on one knee (!!!). The sweetest words and the sweetest guy. I couldn't imagine a more magical and sweet proposal. Thanks to our friends Amanda, Evan, and William who helped set up, clear away fishermen, and took pictures so we could remember it forever. We came back to my family on our back deck with champagne and cake and music bumping. What a night.
