Our love story starts back in 2018. For those who don’t know, we met at Kwik Star in Grimes where I worked at the time. Jordan and his friend Lee would come in multiple times a week to grab drinks and snacks before going to work. This is when he first caught my eye. I remember Jordan walked in the store in his uniform and I turned to my coworker and said, “Man, I sure do love a man in uniform”, as I proceeded to check him out. They got their drinks and walked up to the counter where I waited with a smile on my face. “Good evening did you guys find everything you need?”, I asked looking directly at Jordan. Jordan, of course didn’t look up to speak to me, so Lee had to take over the conversation. This happened for a few months (and by a few, I mean almost an entire year) before Jordan actually looked up and talked to me for the first time. I remember the first time we made eye contact and it felt like we were the only two people in the world. He had these beautiful long eye lashes with brown eyes that almost looked green in the light. I went home from work and sat on my parents’ couch to talk to my mom about work like I did every night as I told her about “Bounty Hunter Boy” for like the 100th time and our magical moment. She, of course in true mother fashion said, “Shoot your shot. We can’t just sit around waiting for men to get their head out of their (insert word too inappropriate for the internet here), take charge and give him your number.” Of course, I was too big of a wimp to ever do something like that. Eventually, in 2019, a couple months after he finally acknowledged me, Jordan decided to hit on me by giving me his business card (super smooth right?). I went home that night to ask my mom if that was his way of “making a move” and she reassured me and convinced me to text him. Once I did, we were inseparable. We would facetime every night for hours on end and talk about every small detail of our lives. A couple weeks later, he drove down to Lamoni to visit for the first time. He was absolutely amazing but the fear of opening up to someone again loomed over me. We grew apart and went our separate ways. In February of 2022, Jordan reached out to me again on snapchat and said, “You look really good! How have you been?” (Thank God he finally learned how to hit on a woman). In no time, we were back to our hour-long phone calls and became inseparable once again. This time felt different though, I was finally ready to let someone in. He seemed too good to be true and was everything I wanted in a man and more. I couldn’t help but fall head over heels and before I knew it, he became my better half and best friend.
I met Kat back in 2018 when my job entailed stopping at Kwik-Star in Grimes before the start if my shift, of course I needed my caffeine and tobacco. When we first officially met it was actually later when we talked, because in the beginning I never paid attention to who was checking me out at the register or anything like that, myself at the time was in an all time low in my life at the time and didn't care much for my surroundings, or anything going on in life besides eat, work, parent, sleep. As time went by my Brother Lee had stated to me "Dude, are you ever gonna talk to her or what?" Of course my reaction was pretty bleak and cheeky and I was like "What, what do you mean, why would I?” Lee-"Dude all she does is check you out and talk to you, and she is always smiling and wanting your attention" Me-"No f*n way, you are so crazy there is no way she is doing that!" Lee- "I swear dude, pay attention and just try to talk to her, you have been down for way to long and this could be something." Being myself and skeptic of the situation that anyone could actually like me decided, why not it won't hurt to try. The following week of course, here I am walking in the door to KwikStar and wouldn't you know it, I make quick eye contact with Kat, and our eyes connect and instantly my heart starts to race, I get nervous and I kinda forgot what I was doing there for a minute. I b-line straight for the energy drinks grab what I want and head to the counter. Kat heads to the counter and with a smile and says "Hey, hows it going" of course I choke and say the most annoying reply ever "Its going" with the best nervous smile I could conjure up, I asked if I could get a can of Copenhagen wintergreen longcut, which at the time I noticed is at the very top of the back wall, and my eyes wonder as she begins to stretch and reach for the can. She comes back with a smile and sparks up a conversation about what I do for work and of course I was short and sweet not knowing if I could really talk to her about what I do and have her follow along with what it is I do. As the time passes by, weeks turn into about a month maybe even two months, I decided after our small little conversations that I need to get her number and get to know her, she has told me she loves to hunt and do outside activities and she loves to fish and on top of that she was in the works to getting her permit to carry, and of course who better to help her achieve that then no other than myself, since I knew I could help her, so I got nervous anddddd couldn't do it, I could not ask, I got scared chickened out and so instead she got my business card with my number on it and I told her to give me a call or shoot me a text whenever if she has any questions about the process or if she needs help. Fast Forward the day she texted me, I was anxious but I took some deep breaths and went for it, before to long we started facetiming, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4. We started talking every night on facetime while she was studying in school and while we would play playstation together with some Call of Duty. It was going great, until.. sad day happens, we lost touch, no idea what happened, we then didn't talk for quite some time, id say almost a year and a half. I reached out one day in 2022 to see how school was going cause I knew she was approaching graduation for undergrad, and believe it or not, the SPARKS WERE STILL THERE, nothing changed between us and for some reason this time it was a fire that was built and it wasn't going out, and it just grew and grew, and I knew from there that she was my other half I have been waiting for, she always was from the beginning and I told myself to marry her as soon as I could cause I was never letting go again. So I found the one spot I knew she'd absolutely love to be asked for her hand in marriage and I made it happen. I cannot wait for our day, 2023 Aug 19!
