The Marriott, ARUBA

Our Story

We know Aruba is far away and windy every day. Wendy and I hope that you can make the trip, raise your glass with us and take a sip. The first time we met she was smitten. It's still not something she's admitting. Wendy saw me at the Vesper Club and started to fall in love. At our second meeting, she was retreating. I asked for her number three times and she declined. I am a good salesman and I persisted, even though she resisted. I finally got the number and I felt great. She told her friends about the first date. She wasn't sure that I would be her mate. There was a second and we stayed out late. I thought she may be too smart and not a lot of fun. She said he spends a lot of time at the gym and he's so white, can he even be in the sun? On the third date, I thought it could be fate. She said we should explore my new hood, I thought, wow, this girl is good! We have had a few scares, so many firsts and great times along the way. I honestly never thought I would have this day. Wendy came to town and my future was turned around. I have to thank 6ABC because I'm happier than I thought I could be. Over the past two years we have had so much fun. We can't wait to celebrate our big day with all of you in the sun! Craig G. Johnston

The Proposal

In December I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. My emotions were everywhere and Craig had to deal with lots of ups & downs, tears & breakdowns. Craig was a champion and not only stuck around, he stood by my side at doctors appointments & surgeries and assured me he loved me no matter what happened to my breasts. In April I was home recovering from a bilateral mastectomy. I kept saying "all I wanted" was to go down to the shore. Easter weekend was supposed to be beautiful & warm, & since it was "all I wanted," Craig said, “Let's go.” His plan was to take me to the beach, but it was FREEZING. So he suggested we walk the dogs to the pier to "see the water level." But it was too windy & cold and I refused to leave the house. Finally God must have been trying to get my stubborn butt off the couch & the sun broke through the clouds for two seconds. I said, "If there’s any time I'm going outside, its now!" We walked down to the end of the pier & I immediately said I was chilly & turned around. Craig said, "Let’s just look at the water for a minute." But he didn’t have a chance. I had already started walking home. I was about 20 feet away when I heard him call my name. He was down on one knee and said simply, “Wendy, Will you Marry Me?” Craig, whose never short on words, claims he had a lot more planned to say, but since I was running away, that's all he could get out. Of course, I said yes! Craig continued the surprise and planned an impromptu engagement dinner with friends. I will say, I always knew Craig loved me, I didn't know how much until that day. He surprises me daily with the little romantic things he does & the commitment he has made to us. He was a great boyfriend, he is an even better fiancé. We’ve been through so much and at each turn I’m reminded he's my rock. I love this man with all my heart & can't wait to marry him in front of our friends and family on December 17th!
