We (barely) met on a Friday night in November 2016. Why, barely? Natalie was asleep on her couch and almost missed the date. Dave chose a location for the first date that was around the corner from his house, but far from Natalie's, making the move off the couch even less likely. Once Natalie made it to the bar and saw Dave sitting in a pink collared shirt, she almost convinced herself that this wouldn't work. Much to Natalie's surprise, we ended up talking for over five hours and quickly made plans to see one another other again. The rest is history. Fast forward about two years...Dave planned a surprise proposal in Joshua Tree National Park ... but, it almost wasn't a surprise. We had a 6 am flight out to California and TSA decided to pull Dave's bag to do extra screening. The ring was in this bag! Lucky for Dave, Natalie was half asleep going through security at 4am, so she wasn't really aware of what was happening. Dave managed to tell the TSA agent about the ring and the TSA agent pulled off the extra screening without ruining the surprise. On the second day of our trip, we hiked to the top of Ryan Mountain and Dave proposed. We spent the rest of the day enjoying Joshua Tree National Park without cell phone service and then got to make lots of excited calls to family and friends that night. It was absolutely perfect.
