Let's Celebrate!

In March of 2015, Jill's friend, Crystine, invited her out to her dad's rec league hockey game where Justin also played. They won and the team went out for drinks. Crystine and Jill tagged along as they hopped from Billy Frogs to The Dubliner. At the end of the night Jill and Justin exchanged numbers. They talked all week long. The next weekend, he picked her up and took her to a UNO hockey game. They have been inseparable ever since. He still plays hockey and she attends as many of his games as she can. They go to UNO hockey games every season with family and friends. And every year, they make it out to Denver to see the Colorado Avalanche play.

After discussing marriage extensively for years, a proposal was inevitable. She knew it. He knew it. All their friends and family knew it. After being together for 7 years, Jill had come to suspect every little thing to be a proposal. Would it be at Christmas, maybe while on a beautiful hike in the mountains, or on a romantic cruise? May 2022, we are driving to Kearney to spend the weekend with Jill's cousins. On the way there, we pull off the interstate and head towards the Platte River and the Fort Kearney State Park bridge over the water. This is the bridge we stop at every spring with Jill's family to watch the great crane migration when they roost on the river for the night. It's a special spot. As we are walking out on the bridge, the sun is setting. We get to a nice open spot over the river, looking at the sunset, and he gets down on one knee and asks her to marry him. "Yes, of course I will!" Jill's cousins, Bryan and Julie, filmed the whole thing. They had champagne and a celebratory dinner planned for the rest of the evening. The weekend was full of love, pedicures, good food, and good company. Justin pulled off a great surprise with the help of Bryan and Julie Waugh. We can't wait to celebrate with all of you as we start this next step of our lives together.
