We both lived in Angell Hall at UW-La Crosse our freshman year and crossed paths through a mutual friend. Throughout the year, we played volleyball, built snow-forts, and attended parties together. With a foundation of friendship, we both went our separate ways after graduation.
Through a string of "Hey, what's up?" text messages over a year time period, Paul eventually convinced Jess to take a night off from studying for pharmacy school and come out to the bar after work. He served her a lovely, green beer on St. Patty's day and left his crew to play Pop-A-Shot with Jess. Her competitive spirit came out immediately as she proudly took a video of her victory; Paul complained that his machine had less basketballs. Shortly after what could be considered a first date at the bar, Paul invited Jess out to dinner at Sardine and it turned into the location for their annual celebration.
We took a hiking trip near Bayfield, WI to view the Sea Caves. Paul held tight to his backpack as we walked the trail together and ventured off numerous times to get a different view of the water. About 2 miles into the hike, Paul veered off yet again. Jess figured this was similar to the last 5 rock outlooks they had viewed, so she hung back this time. After a little coaxing, she joined him at the rock ledge. While she was looking out at the water, Paul unzipped his backpack and got down on one knee. A nervous Paul doesn't remember a yes and a hungover Jess doesn't remember a question. Either way, we were both happy with the result. We look forward to celebrating with all of you soon!
