I had just graduated college and moved back in with my dad. I knew I needed to get a summer job while I was hunting for a teaching job, so I Googled "best restaurants to work", and I found Texas Roadhouse. Fast forward to my first few shifts and I had my eye on one of the cute managers... I was making drinks for my table when Nick came up to me and asked me a question, of course I answered with my usual spunk, and he proceeded to ask me, "Aren't you too new to be this sassy?" I shot him down and said NO with my "teacher eyebrow". Any time I needed a manager for a discount I would find Nick, and before I knew it, he was asking why I didn't go to any other managers. I told him it was because he's the only one I could find and this man had the nerve to say that he thought I liked him!
The first time we dated, I knew Nicholas was the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with; He had other plans! He was training to be a full-time manager and wanted to put his focus on that (understandable, but I was being selfish). We took a break from our relationship and y'all, it was the hardest few months! I did my best to try to hate him, but that obviously didn't help! He asked me if we could try again, but I wasn't ready. I wanted to say "YES OF COURSE!!!", but I needed to keep my foot down. He continued to pursue me for months until I finally agreed to try again. I remember sitting in my car at the Plano ISD administration building, taking a screenshot of the text, and asking my mom what to do. She told me I knew exactly what to do, and the rest is history!
This year's theme for the Annual Roadie Awards was "The Roaring 20's" and everyone was stoked to dress up! Previously in the day we had run a few errands and Nick had to go up to the apartment office (I KNEW it was my ring, but I was fully convinced that he was going to propose on our anniversary). We got to the McKinney Community Center and man it was something else! I felt like every single employee was there, and everyone was dressed to impress. Chuy's catered, so I helped myself to some fajitas and loaded up on chips and queso!! The ceremony began, and before I knew it, it was over! I didn't win an award, and I was bummed!! One of the announcers spoke and said, "hold on, we have another award! Nick was upset that he didn't win anything, so for our runners-up of Mr. and Mrs. Roadhouse, the winners are Nick and Megan!!" Honestly at the point I had no idea what was going to happen. I got up and smiled, and they didn't give me a trophy like everyone else did... I started to walk back to the table and she told me to come back up. Confused, I turned around and tried to figure out what was happening (still had no idea...) "Megan..." Nick said, voice shaking in the microphone. Everyone in the auditorium started yelling and standing up, taking pictures and already crying. (There it is! I know what's happening!) Nick proceeded to call out my dad and his beautiful wife; Stephanie, his aunt, and her amazing son. They had balloons and huge smiles on their faces! My dad came and hugged me, and gave Nicholas the ring! He stumbled out a few precious sentences and got down on one knee. When he asked me to marry me, my response was, "Uh YEAH!!"
