Features include 6.5 miles of ocean beach, a two-mile boardwalk, two Art Deco bathhouses, and an 188-foot Venetian-style water tower known as "The Pencil".
Robert Moses State Park is another major beach destination on Long Island, but it has a slightly different vibe than Jones Beach—less commercial, more natural and relaxed.
Take the ferry from Patchogue, Sayville or Bayshore to visit this "island with no roads." Or you can also drive to Robert Moses State Park and walk into the western part of Fire Island where the lighthouse is. It is a unique barrier island off the south shore of Long Island—known for its beaches, small communities, and car-free lifestyle. It feels very different from the mainland, almost like stepping into a quieter, coastal village culture. Each community has a different vibe depending on what you are looking for.
