We met in college in 2012 at Austin’s fraternity’s chapter house. We were friends for years before the stars finally aligned in 2015 when we were single at the same time. The man I had always thought was so smart and gentle and kind started to look a little different. He started to come in to town after he graduated to hang out with me while I studied. We talked every day for months building a strong friendship. As we were both single, we both needed dates to Pi Kappa Phi’s founders day banquet, which happened to be the same week as Christmas Fest in Natchitoches. Perfect!! We’ll attend both the parade and banquet as friends. (Both secretly hoping that it was possible to end up as more than friends, but both too scared to make the first move.) During the parade, we did what any NSU college student does during Christmas fest—we drank eggnog from Maggio’s. And found ourselves stumbling down front street holding each other up. The rest, they say, is history. About two weeks later, Austin sat me down and asked me to come to Christmas Eve dinner with his father. I was more than ecstatic to accept the invitation. He also asked if he could tell his dad that he was bringing his girlfriend to dinner. And thus we spent our first holiday season together and haven’t looked back. We’ve been serious about each other from the beginning. We can’t wait to celebrate the coming holiday season with vows to each other!
