March 2021 first international trip after the CoVID pandemic to Montego Bay, Jamaica. Who would ever imagine us crossing paths. Let's back up to 2012, while attending a life celebration repass for my friend Janean's mother, a tall handsome man entered the room capturing my attention. When inquiring, I discovered he was my Janean's uncle and single. Wayne would soon become the center of our conversations. Whenever I was in Janean’s presence, I made it my business to ask, "How is Uncle Wayne doing?" Only for her to say, “he’s fine.” But once she saw the look on my face, she be like “No! Stop it! I’m not introducing you to my uncle.” After several years of inquiring, who knew we would be on the same trip to Jamaica and SOLO! Little did I know, Janean had informed “Uncle Wayne” that one of her friends had a crush on him. In Jamaica chilling by the pool, "Uncle Wayne" came over to introduce himself (like I didn't know who he was...lol) and making small talk. We hung out that week and actually enjoyed each other company. BUT he made it very clear before we left the island that he was not looking for anything serious. He was good with just having a "vacation girlfriend". REALLY! No worries. We were both mature adults, it was nice while it lasted. Life as usual when we return to the states. His wish was my command... LOL Back in the states, I received an invite to his birthday party. I hung out with his family and friends. I also met his older sister, Joanne and nephew, Pooch who were in town from Florida. It was a good night until he disappeared and went to bed; while he still had a house full of company (who does this?). No warning or anything? He thought it was funny the next day. One date led to another date and soon we began to spend more time on the regular; traveling together, meeting & attending family events, date nights, visiting his hometown to see the Buffalo Bills play; doing all the things couples do. But remember, "nothing serious"; "vacation girlfriend". LOL... As our relationship developed, our love grew, and Wayne started to shy away as he was not ready to acknowledge his feelings. He eventually shared his thoughts and how I was invading his "No Entry Zone". I'm like "What"? He begins to explain how he built these walls to guard his heart but somehow, I managed to break through. Then he played the song "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" by Deborah Cox. We acknowledged our love for each other. We talked about the future and our expectations of a relationship. As conversations continue, I realized Wayne's conversations included me in all his future plans. Of course, I had to ask - "I thought I was just a vacation girlfriend?". He would smile and say, "I guess we are still on vacation." LOL. Ironically while vacationing in Punta Cuna, DR July 2021, Wayne proposed if front of our family and friends. I did not realize prior to us leaving the states, he had asked my mom and daughter to marry me. Of course, they both gave their blessings. But my daughter's response was splendid as she stated "Yes, you make my mom happy." Wayne also handled all the details in purchasing the ring and planning with family to make it a special event. PRICELESS! Today, we are grateful and thankful to God for the hard conversations, open communication, life experiences and the unconditional love that brought us here! We are excited to see what God has in store for us. As we write the next chapter of life as husband and wife (or shall we say “vacation wife” LOL), we will continue to love unconditional, create beautiful memories, pray together, travel, be silly, have fun, empower each other, and keeping God first while understanding there are no limitations to what we can achieve when we come together as ONE!
