Question

What is the weather like?

Answer

When visiting Colorado it is not uncommon to experience all four seasons. The days can be warm but then cool off significantly after the sun goes down. Making sure you have a coat to keep the chill off at night is encouraged. Montrose can also get windy so a wind breaker is a good idea too. If you are staying in the Grand Junction area, it tends to be warmer. And if you are staying in the Ridgway area, you can expect cooler temperatures as you are higher in the mountains. Regardless of the actual temperature outside, you should take notice of the sun. You are at higher altitudes and therefore the sun can be more intense. Therefore, sun protection is advised.

Question

What do I need to know about high altitudes?

Answer

If you're coming from sea level, higher altitudes can be physically noticed. You may experience shortness of breath, headaches, and/or fatigue. The best way to combat these symptoms is to stay acclimate (arrive a day or two prior to the wedding weekend) and stay hydrated. Some people find that portable oxygen bottles can provide temporary relief of altitude sickness. But, the only true remedy is to return to lower levels. Therefore, if you are concerned about the higher elevations, you should consider staying in Montrose or closer to Grand Junction . *Please also remember that alcohol consumption should be reduced at higher elevations as the effects of alcohol are observed earlier than you might typically be accustomed too.
