Andy and Lindsey met during the first few weeks of their freshman year at The University of Alabama thanks to a mutual friend — Susan, who is now one of Lindsey’s maids of honor. They hung out a few times over the years, but were little more than acquaintances by the time they graduated.
Two football seasons later, Andy and Lindsey were both in Dallas for a Tide playoff game. They ran into each other at a bar and talked for a few minutes before going their separate ways. After a pep talk from his friend Noah (now one of Andy’s best men), Andy decided to find Lindsey and buy her a drink. They spent a few more hours talking and even met up during halftime of the game the next day, but didn’t make any progress toward dating until they met up while Lindsey was in Atlanta visiting friends a few weeks later. After 6+ years as friends, the timing finally clicked...and the rest is history!
In February 2020, Andy contacted a jeweler in NYC who helped him pick out a diamond and design a ring in preparation for proposing during a trip to Germany they had planned for that spring. And then...quarantine. In addition to their vacation getting cancelled, the jeweler was unable to get into his office during lockdown to ship the ring. Without a ring, getting engaged wasn’t even on Andy’s radar when he, Lindsey, and their pets drove up to her parents’ house at the Lake of the Ozarks that May to switch up their quarantine location for a few weeks. However, halfway through the trip, Andy got a call from the jeweler to let him know that the ring was finally on its way to Atlanta. After some initial panicking, Andy realized that proposing at one of Lindsey’s favorite places would be even better than his original plan. In just six days, Andy’s mom in Atlanta had shipped the ring to Lindsey’s mom in Kansas City, who then drove it to the lake and secretly passed it on to Andy the night before the proposal. The following morning, Andy asked Lindsey (and Lily) to go on a walk before their friends came over to spend the day on the lake. He proposed during the walk and when they returned to the house, Lindsey’s mom had organized a small party so they could celebrate with her family and some of her oldest friends. After months of quarantine and cancelled plans, the proposal ended up being nothing short of perfect.
