His and her stories

Hello! Sarah here. Just a little about myself. I was born in Charlottesville, VA and raised in Arbutus, MD. I am the oldest of three kids with two younger brothers. As a child, you primarily found me out on the soccer field or hiking in the woods of the local state park. I earned my Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 2009. I landed my first nursing job in the pediatric nursing department at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. I worked there for 10 years until moving to Colorado and obtaining a job in the pediatric emergency department at Childrens Hospital Colorado. Prior to moving to CO, I earned my Masters of Science in Forensic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine with the continued goal of working as a forensic investigator…fingers-crossed CO catches up with the forensic world. I moved to CO in 2019 with thoughts and hopes of new adventures filling my mind. I had the realization that life is too short to not experience more of this country…so to CO (a state i had never actually been to) I went! Hi! Im Stephen. I grew up in Talladega, Alabama with two older brothers. We spent most of our childhood on the road to soccer practice, tennis, and violin lessons, but loved to spend time on the Alabama coast when possible over the summer. I went to Spring Hill College and received my degree in psychology. I then went to the University of Alabama (War Eagle!) for my masters in speech language pathology. I moved to Colorado in 2018 (the same week as Sarah’s parents!) to spend some part of my life in the Rockies. Nowadays, I am a Rehab Director for an outpatient physical therapy clinic in an assisted and independent living facility. What I like to do in my off time is spend time with our dogs, fly fish, ski, and hike.

Our story

Our first date was February 26, 2020 after a couple of weeks of communication via a dating app (I know, I know but how else is a person new to a city suppose to meet another person who isn’t their co-worker). We met for drinks at Bristol Brewery—a fun, local brewery housed inside an old school, Ivywild School. We recommend you check this place out when you are in town. Proclaimed by both of us, “that was the best date I’ve ever been on”. Little did we know that date was going to change our lives. From there, a relationship began. Unfortunately after just three dates, a pandemic hit and we had to work hard for our relationship to blossom. This required lots of phone calls, and if you know Sarah you know she hates talking on the phone, and numerous rounds of online Ticket to Ride. Against the odds, our relationship blossomed and over the next year, our relationship flourished. It was a year of hiking, board game playing, and slow days of talking and getting to know each other. Saturday, July 3, 2021 was planned to be a fun one. We started the day with a hike down in Canon City and then hopped on the Royal Gorge train for lunch and a train ride through the canyon. Little did Sarah know, but Stephen had been planning a surprise for during the hike. About halfway through the hike with nobody around, Stephen stopped the hike, dropped down to one knee, and asked Sarah to be his wife and his forever. I’m sure you have all guessed, but Sarah said yes! It was a perfect moment and day. In October 2021, we combined our households and now have a small zoo with three dogs, two cats, and two humans living under one roof. Now that you are all caught up, we are very excited to have you all, our dearest family and friends, join us on May 22, 2022 to celebrate our marriage and the start of our lives together! Love, Sarah and Stephen
