Ryan was just another guy that was part of the small church group we had going on, except I thought his name was "Brian" for the fist few weeks! HA! This group of us hung out multiple times a week, until one night, everyone else ditched but Ryan and I were still hungry and decided to go. We ended up grabbing milkshakes and talking til 4AM that night and haven't looked back. We fell in love taking walks on the levee, going to the beach and watching our Tigers play in Death Valley.
We were in New York for the Holidays and I knew Rachel would be expecting it so I had to be as sneaky as possible. Finding a private spot in New York City to propose is about as easy as it sounds, which made the situation that much trickier. On top of that, I had the ring box in my hoodie pocket, it was SOOOO COLD and Rachel kept trying to use the pouch to warm her hands. As we were walking through Central Park, I noticed a trail leading in to some woods so I figured we might as well see where it goes. It brought us out to an overlook over The Pond. The view was incredible, the blend of nature and city in the late afternoon light gave me the best backdrop I could have hoped for. I realized this was our moment. I asked Rachel to marry me, and she said Yes!
