We met on his birthday. I was walking home and eating a $1 mango icy when I ran into Walter. “You must not be from here,” he said it so matter-of-factly. “Oh, really? What gave it away? Do I look like I’m not from here?” I had to know. “I could tell you weren’t from here because you’re eating your icy with a spoon. People from New York City don’t eat icies with a spoon.” I laughed and smiled. “It’s a lot less messy this way.” Now he was smiling, too. ‘I’m from Maryland,” and the conversation went on from there. Soon after he asked for my number. “Can I get your number?” I guess he noticed my hesitation because he followed up with, “Its my birthday!” A month later...we were dating. A year later...he told me that he knew that he was going to marry me on the first day we met. Three years later...he proposed. Six months later we had our beautiful daughter Adora. And now, we’re getting married!
