It all began on July 19th 2021 at Tapas Brindisa Soho, where Naushaba was starting her first day as a waitress. When she called out "John!" to ask for assistance, she thought he completely ignored her. Little did she know that John wasn't ignoring her—he just didn't hear her. (Or, at least, that's what he'd like you to think.) The very next day, after managing to find Naushaba's number in their work group chat, John slid into her texts with a simple, "Want to grab a drink as friends?" It just so happened they had the same day off, so they hit the town in Soho for some drinks and endless chatter. Clearly, something clicked because, over the next seven days, they found plenty of excuses to hang out before or after work. (They still claim it was all "as friends.") By November, John decided to take the plunge and invited Naushaba out to Six by Nico in Fitzrovia. With a delicious 6-course dinner and a very smooth line, he officially asked her to be his girlfriend. Fast forward to March 2022, when John moved into the tiny room in the house Naushaba shared with her housemates. They were told that if they could survive sharing a closet-sized space, they'd survive anything. Spoiler alert: they did. Now, let's jump to April 14, 2023, in the idyllic Maldives, where John proposed to Naushaba during a romantic private dinner overlooking the beach. He'd spent months secretly planning the perfect moment, coordinating with the hotel staff, and even arranging for a photographer. Unfortunately for him, the photographer got a little ahead of schedule, popping in before John could even get down on one knee. Oops! But it all worked out in the end, with Naushaba saying "yes,". And that's how two restaurant coworkers went from "Can you pass the menu?" to "Will you marry me?" — with plenty of laughs and love along the way.
