Picture it, Cancún 2014... Or just a Mexican restaurant in Tampa, FL. It was all a coincidence that they happened to be going to a mutual friend's birthday that night, but others would think it was fate. …Okay, okay, Brooke thinks it is fate. Tristan was simply thankful she had a mind of her own and was fond of her own name. Being new to the area, Brooke obviously needed help setting up her apartment, hanging curtains, etc., so she invited Tristan over to help with the heavy lifting and well... Ce la vie. After countless movie nights, enjoying their fair share of whiskey gingers on the patio, and celebrating the births of their first niece and nephew together there was only one thing left to do... Invite Tristan to meet the family. They took a road trip up to Pensacola with a pit-stop in Madison County to pick up her brother (Dustin) and so began the Icebreakers. After seven months of getting to know each other, meeting the family, and being an all-around adventure, Tristan asks, (in his ever so loving way): "So, like, what are we, you and me?" Brooke gave her answer - and so they began dating in December 2014. They moved in together in the Spring and eventually shared four other places in the Tampa area enjoying the views and local brews. Their next big adventure came in September 2019 when Tristan took a position to work with AWS in Northern VA, adding the fifth location under their belts and returning to Tristan's old stomping grounds, closer to his family. Several months of enjoying family dinner, their first snowy holiday season together, and new wineries proved the move was a success. But then, from out of nowhere - (dun dun dun): 2020 came in like a wrecking ball and forced us to really get to know each other. Like. For real.
2020 limited their family visits so when Thanksgiving came, they excitedly packed with Mom-Mom and headed to Madison County, FL. However, everyone outside of Brooke knew about a furry little surprise waiting for them when they arrived. Kyber Walks was formally introduced and the Brooke & Tristan duo turned into a trio. Bezick holidays consist of competitive board game nights and home improvement projects while waiting for everyone to arrive. Thanksgiving day started like any other at the Bezick's. Breakfast, conversations over coffee, and an energy buzzing in the air (energy unbeknownst to Brooke). There was a storm that rolled in causing the annual family photos in the scenic landscape to move inside, sending plans into a spiral. Despite it being 11am, the drinks began flowing as the family brainstormed on new plans for pictures. After some back and forth, the makeshift studio was built in the foyer, the camera was in place, and all were ready for photos. As the family session neared completion, the couples' photos began, and Tristan propositioned bringing Kyber in for the new "Walks Family" picture. With a certain look on his face and a suave tone in his voice, Tristan asked if she saw the new dog tags that read "Brooke - Will you Marry me?". No sooner did she read the tag, Tristan was on his knee with a smile looking up at her asking her to be his wife. The answer was given in an instant and a sigh of relief was released. The video captured the proposal along with the usual background chatter of Pickleball and "when will dinner be ready". And just like that, they were engaged - standing at the bottom of the front steps of Brooke's childhood house surrounded by loved ones. Happy tears were shed, celebratory drinks we poured, and family and friends unable to join were called to share in the news. They relished in the remainder of the trip as newly engaged Brooke and Tristan; all before making the 18-hour drive home in a Uhaul with a 4-month-old pup.
