He was a groomsman, and I was a bridesmaid when we met at the sparkler send off of our best friends' wedding! Something about him just felt right--even in that first conversation. I was living in Virginia, and Mason was preparing to move to Charlotte, so we both went home that night without having made a move. A couple of months later, I decided to ask him to be my date to a friend's wedding. Starting that weekend, he drove 5 hours from Charlotte every week for the next 6 months so that we could see each other. I knew anyone willing to do this was definitely a keeper!
We planned a weekend getaway to Asheville, and Mason surprised me with reservations to stay at The Grove Park Inn. The next morning, we got up at 4 am to drive a little outside of Asheville to Pisgah National Forest for a sunrise hike. We got to a quiet spot on the most incredible bald mountain top just as the sun was beginning to rise, and Mason got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Through tears of joy, I said, "Yes!", and we watched the most amazing sunrise I have ever seen. We spent the rest of the weekend in pure bliss; completely overjoyed with excitement!
