John and Shannon met on the sensational dating app Tinder. Shannon likes to say she “swiped right” for the photos of John’s adorable dog Layla, but John likes to say it was because he was “bored”. Regardless, John messaged Shannon first, and the two chatted until they decided to meet in person, at the Harwich Land Ho for a drink. The connection was instant, and they have been inseparable ever since!

On Monday March 23, 2020 the Massachusetts Governor issued a “stay at home order” beginning the following day at 12:00 noon. John received a hurried phone call from the jeweler telling him the ring pick up was now or never. John made a trip off Cape while Shannon assumed he was working his typical shift. When John arrived home, Shannon was in her sweatpants and sweatshirt and had no plans of going anywhere that stormy night. John told Shannon there were whales at Nauset Beach, and we better go see them quick before it gets even choppier on the ocean. Shannon whined “do I have to put on real pants?” Which John adamantly said yes. In protest, Shannon responded with “Fine, but I’m not wearing a bra”. With Maisie and Layla in tow, John and Shannon arrived to a very blustery Nauset, and to Shannon’s dismay, no whales. John asked Shannon if she was cold, which she was, but didn’t mind because her eyes were searching for breaching humpbacks in the horizon. To her surprise John had something much better on the beach, where he was down on one knee with a sparkling diamond. John and Shannon celebrated in John’s truck with a bottle of champagne, music, and lovely giddiness, until they left to surprise family and friends with the news.
