How We Met

First comes bikes, then comes marriage

We had known each other through mutual friends at Northern Michigan University but we first get to know each other at Blackrocks Brewery where we were attending Freshcoast Film Festival. We had both completed bike tours the previous summer - Olivia had ridden across Montana and Dylan had completed his first Tour Divide. We talked about circumnavigating Lake Superior and the rest they say, is history.

The Proposal

the best sunrise of the year

Olivia - We watch a lot of sunrises and sunsets together. So when Dylan asked me to watch the sunrise the following morning on March 11, 2019 I thought nothing of it. Dylan - I had went out to where I wanted to propose on March 11 and timed how long it would take to hike to the point. I needed know exactly how long the hike through the three feet of snow ignorer to get to the point as the sun was rising. Olivia - That morning when Dylan picked me up I tried to complain about how warm my bed was and how cold it was outside to avoid the early morning excursion. But, I was ignored and grumpy ate toast in the car. Dylan - Olivia was not a happy camper and was less then thrilled when I was speed walking in the deep snow in order to get to the sunrise. I was very nervous and excited to ask my best friend to spend the rest of her life with me. Olivia - Dylan Tried to make me love my coffee in the car and I didn't have gloves. But, I could tell through the pine trees that it was going to e a good sunrise, even though I had no clue he was going to propose. Dylan - We got to the point just in time to see the sun start to rise over the frozen landscape that was Lake Superior. I led Olivia to a section of the trail that overlooked the water and with a deep breath draped to one knee and asked her to marry me. Olivia - I tried to get Dylan to stop at the end of the trail but, he took a right and when I looked over he was on one knee. I can't remember what he said but, for once in my life I was speechless. Happy tears followed. Dylan - Olivia was smiling ear to ear as I put the ring on her finger. In that moment I forgot how cold it was outside. Our friend Bugsy snapped some photos of us from a hidden spot as I told Olivia how much I love her and that I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her. Olivia - I was overwhelmed with joy and happy to spend the rest of the day sharing the news with friends and family.
