The Wedding Website of Wainani Traub and Artem Sergyeyev

Travel Note

Travel

Kīlauea Military Camp is approximately a 45-minute drive from Hilo Airport (ITO) and about a 2 hour 15-minute drive from Kona International Airport (KOA).

Travel Note

Park Entrance

Because the venue is within the national park, all vehicles are subject to the park entrance station. While you can let the ranger know that you are attending a wedding at KMC, entrance is ultimately at their discretion. They may let you through without paying the entrance fee, but it is not guaranteed. For the smoothest experience, we recommend purchasing a $30 private vehicle pass which is valid for 7 days. See the park website for other options.

Accommodations

Our wedding ceremony and reception will take place at Kīlauea Military Camp (KMC), located within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Because cabin reservations at KMC must be made by active-duty military members or veterans, Artem will be sponsoring and reserving cabins on behalf of our guests. If you would like to stay at KMC and are not military-affiliated, please reach out to Artem at least one month prior to the wedding so we can help secure accommodations for you.

Travel Note

Volcano safety

Drink plenty of water during your stay—volcanic smog (“vog”) can be drying and may affect breathing more than you’re used to, so staying hydrated will help. Closed-toed shoes are strongly encouraged. The ground around KMC is covered in small pieces of volcanic glass and tephra (sharp little rock fragments), so not exactly barefoot-friendly. If an eruption happens while you’re here (how exciting!), there’s a chance of tephra falling from the sky. If that happens, you’ll definitely be glad you brought closed-toed shoes—there have already been a few tephra fall events this year, so we’re not kidding.
