Some of you may know this story, and others may not. We went to high school together (those yearbook pics are nothing short of hilarious), but we were in different grades and different circles of friends. Lance then transferred to Lee's Summit North, despite living roughly 4 blocks away from my childhood home. Later, both of us hung out in the same circles, and Lance was even good friends with one of my childhood friends from my Ray South days... and yet still nothing. In 2019, we began talking as strictly friends on Facebook. (Lance slid into my DM's, but he will never admit it!) One day, while I was in the lunch line at work, Lance took it upon himself to randomly change his Facebook relationship status to say he was "In a Relationship" with me. When I returned to my phone/desk, I grabbed my phone to check on anything I may have missed, and to say I was surprised is a total understatement! I immediately, and without hesitation, called him, and all he could do was answer the phone in hysterical laughter. We both left our relationship statuses that way, until a few days later when Lance suggested giving dating each other an actual shot. (I swear this was his plan all along!) Although being in a long-distance relationship (literally half of a country away) was not easy, we both gave it our all. We flew to the other for short weekend trips, I worked from Florida a week here and there, etc. While we were finalizing what a move to Florida would look like for Makhenna and myself the world was hit with COVID. Once again, although not easy, we overcame all challenges. Five and a half years later, we are here to celebrate our Facebook joke with you all!
