Our story, in some ways, begins in Texas—a girl from small-town Albany, Texas and a Dallas city boy—two lives unfolding just a few hours apart. Even attending the same (and best) college, the University of Texas at Austin (Hook ’Em), unknowingly passing one another in the same halls. But life had its own timing. It wasn’t until years later, under California skies, that fate (and a Silver Lake house party) finally brought us together. Our first date at Cow’s End, a local coffee shop by the beach in Venice, carried a kind of energy that’s hard to put into words—effortless, a little unexpected, and full of laughter that made time slip away. From that day forward, the simplest parts of life became our favorites: long walks that stretched into hours, coffee runs that turned into rituals, and movie nights that made staying in on a Friday something to look forward to. And so, the question was popped after a stroll down memory lane—after sips of dirty chai lattes and reminiscing about long walks of old, on the beach where we watched the sunset after getting the keys to our first apartment together; where our families sipped coffee with sand between their toes; where our friends from across the globe have thrown down beach towels to soak up the California sun.
