We met at The University of Vermont. We were both part of the track and field team. Taylor was a current athlete and Jake was working to obtain his coaching certificate, but we didn't start dating until two years later. There's another story about a doppelganger... but that's a story for another time!
Our first date, according to Taylor was on Church Street in Burlington Vermont. We got gelato and chatted for hours and ended the night gazing at the stars. Jake swears our first date was in Boston. We went to dinner and watched the tree lighting in Faneuil Hall. Shortly after we started dating Taylor left for a 6 month semester abroad in Australia. Don't ask us our anniversary- you'll also get conflicting answers!
After searching high and low for a pup to fit our lifestyle, we were about to give up. A few months before the end of our lease in Quincy we went to a puppy meeting with Last Hope K9 rescue. On a list of 16 potential dogs there was only one left: a scruffy dog that was being fostered in prison. After meeting with the pup, we were unsure about what to do. Jake was just excited to get a dog and Taylor was apprehensive about taking the first dog we met. On the way to work the next day we frantically applied to adopt the pup. Within a week we had ended our lease early, found a new place to live and moved in with the new pup, Candella who everyone now knows and loves as Mara.
Prior to a vacation in Mexico, Jake took Taylor out to dinner at Bin 26 in Beacon Hill. Jake rushed the bill and uncharacteristically denied Taylor tea and dessert. We took a walk on the Esplanade on a windy 20 degree night in April. Taylor begged Jake to turn around because her hands were so cold. We stopped on a foot bridge and Jake said "I have something for you..." To which Taylor replied "Oh what? are you going to propose." Jake proceeded to hand Taylor a card. She replied, "Oh thank god!" (Giving random cards is a thing we like to do so Taylor was still unaware). The card was filled with sweet sentiments and at the bottom of the card was a simple question. This made Taylor cry uncontrollably for at least 20 minutes and finally (through chattering teeth) replied "YES!"
