We're Getting Married!

Nicholas Bird

and

Megan Wade

How We Met

10.16.10

Nick & Meg met in the hallways of Kings High School. Meg had moved from Illinois and they shared one class together. One random day at the movies, Meg got a text from an unknown number saying "Hey this is Nick, what movie are you seeing?". That "creepy" text is when it all began... From then on they had a thing for each other, even if they were too scared to say "Hi" face to face in the hallways. It took over a year for Nick to get the courage to ask Meg out. They went to Whipty Do in Landen, Ohio for ice cream. On October 16th, 2010, Nick asked Meg to be his girlfriend. To briefly sum up about ten years... after high school, they both attended Miami University. Nick moved to Michigan to work for the Gallo winery and Meg went to Physical Therapy school at Ohio University. They persevered through three years of long distance and FINALLY bridged the gap after Meg completed graduate school. They have been a part of each other's lives during major periods of both growth & change, which has helped them build an indestructible relationship. Regardless of several "soul searching" attempts and doubting whether high school sweethearts could truly last forever, they couldn't shake each other. Present: they are more in love than ever.

How He Proposed

12.21.18

Nick planned a "progressive date" at Liberty Center. We had gone on a similar date in high school and I didn't expect anything out of the ordinary. Each stop on the date was a surprise. We bounced around to grab appetizers, cocktails, and continued on to Cooper's Hawk Winery for dinner. Nick told me our next stop was to see Christmas lights, but that it was a little bit of a drive. In the car, he blindfolded me so it would not ruin the display of the lights as we drove up. I believed him... We arrive and Nick opens the door to help me out. He says that I may see some flashing "Christmas lights" through the blindfold. He walks me a short distance and then removes the blindfold. All I see is him kneeling down on one knee with a ring. We were at Whipty Do, the ice cream shop where we had our first date ever about eight years prior. I had zero time to process anything. I didn't even notice the beautiful candle lit path and lights surrounding the sign saying, "Meg will you marry me?". I immediately hugged him and I was so shocked. I apparently forgot I had to say yes because he asked "Well are you going to say yes?". Without hesitation, I said yes. Back at Nick's house, our families were waiting for us with champagne and cake. To make the night even more special, Nick surprised me with a weekend at a romantic cabin getaway, which we left for after the celebration. To say the least, it was AMAZING.
