My friend Megan had been telling me about Steve since the summer of 2014. We finally met at a get together at her house in September. If anyone knows me, you wouldn't be surprised that I barely spoke to him the whole time. However, when I added him on Facebook the next day, it didn't discourage him from asking me to get a drink that night. I was definitely more talkative (thanks to the couple of drinks I had before going). Fast forward 5 years and here we are! Now he probably wishes I would stop talking! :)
Steve and I usually go away for the weekend of my birthday. Since we had a wedding on my birthday weekend, it wasn't a huge surprise when Steve planned a weekend away to visit the Long Island wineries a couple of weeks after my birthday. We stayed at an Airbnb in New London, with a private beach and a beautiful lighthouse on the property. The plan was to hang out on the beach during the day, go to a nice dinner, and then visit the wineries the following day. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and our beach day turned into a day spent in Mystic - walking around & bar hopping. Needless to say, when I woke up the next day, I felt like I was dying and didn't know how I was going to make it through a ferry ride, never mind drink wine all day. Little did I know, Steve's plan was to propose on Friday night...oops! While Saturday was a lot of fun and I was able to enjoy the wine of LI, the right opportunity to propose didn't arise. Which brings us to June 16th - we had reservations to stop for brunch at Waters Edge on our way home. It was Father's Day so there were a lot of people there and we had to wait a little bit when we got there. The hostess told us that someone from our party just called and added another person. Steve told the lady she must have been mistaken, and I thought nothing of it. We go for a walk around the property as we wait, and of course I'm trying to rush us back, anxious that we are going to miss our table. Steve was lingering behind, and when we got back towards the restaurant he stopped to take a picture of us. Someone asked if we wanted them to take it, and as this random teenage girl took our picture, Steve got down on one knee! I don't even remember what he said, but I assume he asked me to marry him! This random girl had no idea what she signed up for. Rebecca ended up being the person added to our reservation. Leave it to the two of them to throw together a last minute proposal that couldn't have been more perfect!
While Steve and I had been very optimistic that we would be able to get married in 2020, we have come to terms that Covid-19 has other plans for us. So we have decided to join all the other Covid couples in 2021! It was a very difficult decision, but we feel that it is the best one at this time. Now we have some extra time to plan and can't wait to celebrate with everyone in July!
