Hailey and Riley met similar to how many millennial relationships begin – on social media. Riley was scrolling through Facebook thinking he was just killing time. Little did he know that a new suggested friend would change everything: Hailey Vreeman. Riley thought he knew most of the Vreeman’s, but for some reason, he had never crossed paths with Hailey. Riley decided to send a friend request along with a message asking her to meet. Shortly after, Hailey agreed to their first date (November 2019). The couple went to Minnehaha Falls and stopped for ice cream along the way. Hailey and Riley both felt a strong connection and could see potential in the relationship. Not long after, the Covid-19 shelter-in-place mandate was in effect. Hailey was able to work virtually and decided to move back to Willmar with her parents for an extended time. During those seven months, Hailey and Riley were able to spend a lot of time together and grow in their relationship.
The week leading up to the proposal Riley was still unsure exactly where and how it was going to take place. He ultimately chose Stillwater, and recruited the help of Hailey’s sister, Ashley. On Saturday, December 19, Riley and Hailey explored the shops of downtown Stillwater. With nerves rising, Riley suggested they walk down by the river to look at the lift bridge illuminated in Christmas lights. Riley got down on one knee and asked, “Hailey, will you marry me?” You know the rest…!
