To give full credit where credit is due, they met thanks to the dating app, Bumble. Jon was in town by way of Littleton, Colorado visiting his friend, Andy who’d just moved to Austin. Their first date was on February 7, 2017 at the urban winery, Infinite Monkey Theorem. They split a bottle of Malbec, quoted movies, and talked about the feud between the emo bands Taking Back Sunday and Brand New. That week they hung out almost every single day. Tori showed Jon the live music, green belts, and great food that Austin had to offer. When Jon had to go back to Colorado they both realized they might never see each other again, fortunately that never happened. They spoke everyday whether it was a short text or long conversation they never lost touch. Willing to put in the effort, they planned visits to see each other. Lucky for them, they both lived in two great places. After a year and a half of long distance dating, Jon moved to Texas. With Tori’s ol' reliable Black Lab mix, Nana, and Jon’s spunky Border Collie, Addy, they became a family of four. After they met each other’s nearest and dearest friends and family, they knew their lives would meld in an organic and beautiful way.
Fast forward to November 2019, Jon and Tori knew they were going to spend the rest of their lives together and they talked about the future regularly. Tori is a bit of an environmentalist (those who know her know what an understatement that is) and loves to recycle and reuse whenever possible. Her Mom had several heirloom rings passed down in the family for generations. Tori knew she wanted to incorporate those rings in some way. Earlier in November, while Tori was away for the weekend, Jon went to visit her parents. The pretext was to borrow a drill, but when there he asked for her hand and asked for those special rings. Tori had no idea. Later that month, they made their yearly Thanksgiving voyage to visit Jon’s family in Hilton Head. They decided to break up the 20 hour trip with an overnight stay in New Orleans. They dropped off their belongings, got the dogs settled, and washed up to go to dinner. They called an Uber and made their way to the French Quarter for dinner. Jon noticed that they were approaching Jackson Square. Seeing the riverwalk along the Mississippi out of his window, he told the driver to stop, that they’d get out and walk the rest of the way. The sun was setting and the sky was gorgeous and glowing beyond the Crescent City Connection bridge. Walking, taking everything in, Jon started telling Tori how every decision he’d ever made had brought him to her. He said he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He asked her to marry him. Tori was filled with shock and emotion. While completely and totally surprised, she knew her answer, an overwhelming, and confident YES. One last surprise. With the sun just above the horizon, Jon pulled the most beautiful rose gold ring from his pocket. The heirloom stones were stunning in their new setting. Jon’s design was thoughtful and romantic. It blends family heritage with new hope. He’d had the jeweler work her soon to be initials, VV, for Victoria Vozzo into the ring setting. He nailed it.
