The night they met it was 46 degrees and freezing! Good friends of theirs had made plans to get together to attend a huge bonfire in the Acreage for a birthday. After riding in what felt like the longest car ride from Boca, Megan finally made it to what appeared to be the middle of no where. The sky was lit up with millions of stars and there was a captivating glow from a blazing fire. Dressed in ballet flats with a black leather jacket, Megan stood out in a crowd full of camouflage and boots. Joe introduced himself the moment he saw her. In a distressed Aeropostale jacket, red bandanna tucked in his back pocket, and colorful high-top shoes, he too stood out in the crowd. They spent the rest of the evening laughing and talking for hours as the ash from the fire, fell like snow. He called her the next day (his birthday) to ask her on a date. After arriving to her parents door with the largest yellow rose she had ever seen, they hit it off and here we are today.
They arrived at Palm Beach International Airport to venture to upstate New York for a Holmes family vacation. As Megan's parents headed to the security line, Joe kept Megan behind with a made up excuse that he had to grab something before the flight. Little did she know it was to buy time, just in case the custom silver ring box he gave her mom was flagged by security. Once at the house on the river, Joe was waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question. On the morning of July 4th, Megan went on a 45 minute kayak trip with her cousins. Still sore from the previous day's 3 hour adventure, Joe stayed behind. Shortly after Megan left, he yelled to her Mom "Grab the ring!" He had his best friend; Zack, help him get to what was known as 'Duck Rock' in the middle of the crystal clear river. With a bouquet of flowers; that were later identified as the most beautiful weeds, Joe sat on the rock patiently waiting for over 45 minutes for Megan to paddle in. Megan saw Joe on the rock as her dad (who was in on the surprise) yelled "go get your boyfriend!". As she approached him, his bright pink cheeks were complimented by a sweet smile that was ear to ear. He said "I got you something", as he reached behind his back and gave the bouquet to her. He paused for a few seconds and said these words, "You know how much I love you right? We've been through so much together, and I just want to ask"... as he knelt down on one knee, soft tears flowing down his cheeks he asked the question, "Will you marry me?" Through her uncontrollable giggles, Megan said yes to a question she had been dreaming of. She didn't quite feel that the moment was real until the ring was on her hand and she looked up to see 20 family members cheering from the river bank. Joe pulled Megan back to shore, gave her the biggest hug sweeping her off of her feet and said through the tears of joy, "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you"! She of course said, "Me too!"
