We met on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend 2017. Both with friends at the same bar, we noticed each other but were not near each other. Danielle struck up a conversation by placing herself between me and the bathroom and it’s safe to say that we hit it off pretty quickly. I was with three friends (Danielle was 90% sure I was straight) but knew that I needed to make sure I didn’t let her out of my sight. Afraid we’d get separated, I made sure that Danielle quickly put her number in my phone (it was the only responsible thing to do). We continued hopping from bar to bar, learning about each other and falling deeper and deeper into like. We played a game of darts and I proposed a bet: If I threw closer to the bullseye, she’d have to kiss me, and if she was closer I’d have to kiss her. And of course she threw a bullseye. The rest is history.
We were in NYC for the weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday. On this particular day, we walked over to the West Village, had a couple drinks and headed to our favorite sushi spot for an special omakase meal. After lunch we were pretty stuffed and decided to take what I thought would be a nice leisurely walk. Brian had the idea to walk across the Brooklyn bridge, so we bundled up with our scarves, gloves, and hand warmers and started walking. Halfway up, Brian takes my hand and I can’t help but notice he’s really moving. I had to take off my scarf because I’m now sweating in the 30 degree weather at this pace. Once we got down to the bottom, he lead us over to a park. This place had the most amazing view of the city and the sun was just starting to set (hence the speed-walking). Brian found someone to take our picture, I took a couple test shots with my camera to make sure it was set up right. Next thing I know Brian walked over, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. After a quick yes (duh) we headed into a coffee shop to thaw out. Once we warmed up and called/texted our family and friends, it finally hit me. We’re getting married!
