Like many modern relationships, CarLee's story started at a bar. Mutual friends tried for months to get their paths to collide but at the time, Lee was very distracted with other things (women) and Carly had yet to see photo proof that he was worth the effort. When the two finally met, it was love at first sight...for Carly at least, which warranted a foreboding Facebook friend request. Little did she know, this cyber invasion would lead to Lee doing some stalking of his own. After a surprise visit from Lee at Carly’s work, some romantic dates of shooting guns and heavy drinking (+petting), it was clear that the two were infatuated with each other. In the beginning, Carly the more (visibly) emotional of the two, was determined to change the fact that Lee was not one to show his emotional side. Through adventurous "honeymoons" in a dozen countries, long FaceTime calls from across the world and years of thoughtful sweet nothings, the couples love (and Lee's heart) blossomed. Now the two lovebirds are ready to start the greatest journey of their lives!
On a weekend road trip to North Carolina with big plans to hike Asheville's highest peak, MT Mitchell, CarLee woke up to grey skies, howling winds and pouring rain. Though Lee was undeterred, Carly was clearly not thrilled at the idea because it was wet and FREEZING outside. They compromised on a short day hike to “Craggy Gardens” which was highly recommended by the locals. As they reached the summit, the wind dramatically picked up, the temperature plunged, and the clouds and fog were hiding any chance of a view. Carly was not in the best of the moods at the anticlimactic hike she dubbed "Crappy Gardens". On the way back, Lee pointed out a slightly hidden pathway leading to a lovely gazebo that overlooked a small cliff-side. Magically, the fog had cleared and even Carly conceded that the view was pretty great! Lee worked into a spiel as they overlooked the cliffside; “Today kind of reminds me of our relationship... a bit messy but beautiful at the same time." He then pulled out a ring, got on his knee, told Carly how much he loves her and asked her to spend the rest of his life with him. Carly was taken aback, blurted out, "NO, STOP!" in disbelief, but luckily for Lee she followed with, "OF COURSE!". They sealed it with a kiss, carved their initials into the wood gazebo and in typical fashion, took photo after photo to memorialize the event. Carly's mood immediately turned around and they strolled off into the fog hand in hand as they set off for the rest of their lives together.
