Bryan and I first met in the 6th grade (2010) in MERIT class. He became my partner for a project on building a bridge our of popscicle sticks and told me he would be really good at this because he’s going to be an engineer one day. I told him I’d believe it - our “bridge” ended up withstanding all the tests we did in class. After then, I ended up having a huge crush on him in the following years. I had him help me in math class and teach me how to play soccer so I could make the team with him. Fast forward to 2014, Bryan and I had two classes together in 10th grade and we became really good friends. After class had ended one day, I asked him if I could have his gatorade from his bookbag because I was so thirsty. We were walking out of english class and he gave me his glacier ice gatorade. When I got home, I couldn’t find my keys in my bookbag and my brother and I thought we were locked out of the house. (My mom ended up coming home two hours later and my keys were at the bottom of my bookbag but I am so glad I didnt find them.) I was bored waiting on my mom so I texted Bryan saying thank you for giving me his drink because we are stuck outside in the heat. We haven’t stopped talking since that day. October 11, we went on our first date to the movies with a group of my friends (we weren’t allowed to go alone - thanks Mom and Dad!). Sixteen days later Bryan asked me if I’d be his girlfriend and the rest is history.
We both arrived to our new apartment at 9 a.m. sharp. This was the first time Bryan and I were going to live alone together. We had our entire apartment unpacked by dinner time thanks to his sister, my brother, and our moms! Bryan told me that some of our family friends wanted to go get dinner at our favorite sushi restaurant that night and I nearly said no - I was exhausted from unpacking and ready to go to bed - could we not wait until tomorrow? But thank God I went along with it. My mom told me to change clothes and wear something nice like a dress and I said “Why? It’s not like it’s anywhere fancy!” And now I look back on it and laugh because I genuinely had no clue what was about to happen. Bryan’s sister Sam had me run downstairs to help bring her stuff up to our apartment and stopped me at the door asking if she could record me giving a tour of my apartment (complete with an intricate lie about how it’s to make a boy jealous I must add) so of course I said yes. I was so busy showing off my apartment that I nearly missed the note, bottle of champagne and roses on the counter until Sam pointed it out. I read the note and followed a trail of rose petals into the next room to see Bryan on one knee and our family and friends holding signs stating “Will you marry me?” I still to this day can’t comprehend how they got up to the apartment so quick and how I never knew (I know everything!) but this became one of the best memories of my life. We spent a little over a year engaged and we are ready for this next chapter of our lives! Here’s to becoming the Vogel’s!
