Things To Do in Pittsburgh

Please scroll to the bottom of this page for tips on public transit in Pittsburgh!

Carnegie Museum of Natural History & Art

4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

-If you are heading toward the Natural History side from the entrance, keep walking past the Natural History gift shop and then turn left into the display of ancient architecture and sculptures because you do not want to leave it to the end…then go back to the gift shop, it is a banger of a gift shop -The gems are unreal and seemingly infinite. They are right before the dinosaurs and other ancient fossil exhibits -After the dinosaurs, there is a spiral staircase, if you go all the way up to the top floor, there is a brand new interactive exhibit about the physics of animals and how they are “engineered” by natural selection to suit their environments -It is best to set aside at least 4 - 6 hours if you want to see both the art and natural history sides -Parking is behind the building -Natural history museum events: https://carnegiemnh.org/events/

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

1 Schenley Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

The Andy Warhol Museum

117 Sandusky Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

-Largest museum in North America that is dedicated to a single artist. -If you are looking for the parking lot, head to the big Brillo Box [parking attendant booth]

Allegheny River Walk - Point State Park

601 Commonwealth Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

-Includes the fountain at the Pittsburgh point and charming riverwalks accented with colorful graffiti art. Plenty of places to sit and enjoy the rivers, day or night. >Occasionally, you witness the spectacle of people swimming in the grody rivers. >Please don't swim in the rivers. -If you want to skip stones, make sure to bring some with you because they are hard to find here -Bringing wine in a coffee cup is probably nice -Home to the Fort Pitt Museum where you get a hefty scoop of Pittsburgh’s history

Apteka

4606 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224

-Mind-blowingly excellent artisan vegan dishes -Best perogies ever. -Recommended cocktails: >Spruce cordial with vodka, wild juniper, and zwack >Vodka, gruner, dandelion, sheep sorrel, and oat straw -If you have to wait for a table and wanna chill out somewhere in the meantime, the bar Brillobox is a ~6 minute walk - the decor/artwork in this place is pretty cool -Only open Friday-Sunday 5-10 pm for dine-in

Redfishbowl

4327 Butler Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15201

-a vibrant, novel, fun art gallery!! -across the street is Kickback Cafe, a pinball coffee shop - they have an impressive variety of beverages, and we recommend grabbing a bag of their La Prima Kickback coffee blend

Grandview Overlook

136-160 Grandview Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15211

-Fabulous spot to photograph Pittsburgh -10 minute walk from the top of the Duquesne Incline, 15 minute walk from the Monongahela Incline -If you don’t enjoy terrifyingly steep roads, do not drive to the overlook. I believe parking at station square (to walk to the Monongahela incline) is $8 for 4 hours.

Arsenal Cider House

2905 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216

-The drinks are *too* good. -21 ciders/dranks on tap -Closes around 8 or 9, which sucks

La Prima Espresso Company

205 21st Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

-The literal best coffee in Pittsburgh -If you like coffee, plan to get a bag here, the baristas know what’s good if you have questions -The organic fair-trade Ethiopia bag is our top pick, it is a light roast with notes of Gingerbread, Black Cherry, and Hibiscus. -Downtown (closes at 2:30 pm): 1100 Smallman St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 -Strip (closes at 4 or 5 pm): 205 21st St, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Carnegie Science Center

1 Allegheny Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

-Laser shows in the Buhl Planetarium are pretty cool -USS Requin Submarine (included with Science Center admission) - you can tour a super old submarine that set out days before the end of WWII and held 80 men. Pretty cool but smells kinda bad. No extra charge - is included with admission. -Southern Tier is right down the street if you head in the direction of PNC park

Southern Tier Brewery

316 North Shore Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

-Noice beer list, and a flight can be fun here. Good choice to take beer to go, they even have seasonals year-round

National Aviary

700 Arch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

(they’ve got a sloth or two.)

Randyland

1501 Arch Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Free, super cool art museum, often regarded as one of the brightest, vibrantly colored public landmarks in America. We have never been there, but it’s on our Pittsburgh bucket list.

South Hills Village T Station

South Hills Village T Station, Bethel Park, PA 15241

Notes for the trolley/bus experience because Pittsburgh parking can suck* From South Hills Village Garage/Station (walking distance from Crowne Plaza Hotel / is right across from the Eat'n'Park): -to get to the north side, (PNC park, Heinz Field**, Southern Tier Brewing, Carnegie Science Center) take the trolley to Allegheny Station (the last stop) -to get to the strip district, get off of the trolley wood street, then take an 86/87/88/91 bus [from the bus stop right outside of wood street station] to Liberty Ave + 21st St FS -to go downtown, get off the trolley at wood street -to get to Point State Park, get off of the trolley at Gateway Station *Locations where you can purchase public transit passes >South Hills Village Garage (Next to Eat ‘n’ Park at South Hills Village Mall) >Atwood Station (Oakland) >Steel Plaza Station (Downtown) >Wood Street Station (Downtown) >Station Square Station (Downtown/South Side) **the sign says acrisure, but it's not acrisure, it's Heinz
