Things To Do

If you have more time (and ideally an overnight stay), drive to Juta Village (~30–40 min from Stepantsminda). Hike the Chaukhi Pass trail for jaw-dropping views of jagged peaks, alpine lakes, and green valleys. Café Tip: Stop by Fifth Season, a rustic guesthouse/café at the top of the trail with incredible views and good food.

A quirky and quiet little village just outside Kazbegi, home to a valley of stone-carved Georgian poet heads. Peaceful and a bit surreal art installation.

Gergeti Trinity Church (Holy Trinity Church of Gergeti)

Gergeti Trinity Church (Holy Trinity Church of Gergeti)

Kazbegi, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Georgia

Why go: The crown jewel of the region. Perched on a hill at 2,170m with Mount Kazbek looming behind, this 14th-century church is the definition of “epic backdrop.” How to get there: Drive or hire a 4x4 taxi in Stepantsminda (road is rough). Hike from the village (~1.5–2 hours up; moderately strenuous but worth every step).

Narikala Fortress & Botanical Garden
